Peter Holmes has since left and has established Scottish Borders Art Glass, whose studio is situated in the heart of the Border countryside where he carries out the ancient art of glass making.
Peter Holmes name is renowned worldwide as a glass artist, having being involved in glass making for 40 years, Peter Holmes the driving force behind the formation of Scottish Borders Art Glass has built n international reputation amongst discerning collectors for his unique style in creating art glass. Peter studied glass making under the legendary glass and paperweight artist Paul Ysart during the 1960s and early 70s. He has continued through his own design and skill expertise, linked to technical ability, to advance his initial creations.
Successes such as the creation of the abstract paperweight in 1965, ensured that he remains amongst the leading glass artists.. his fantastic pieces are constantly sought after in the world of art glass and are represented in the Victoria and Albert museum, Musee de Vere in Belgum, the Perth Museum, Broadfield house Museum of Glass and Bergstrom Mahler Museum.
Peter is determined not to let the skills that he has learnt and develop over the years be lost or forgotten, and has therefore decided to pass on his very special style and expertise to a new generation of young glassmakers.
So look out for Kenneth Scott, who has been making and designing glass under Peter for the last 10 years has joined forces with him along with other names like Andrew Holmes, Peters son, as an apprentice. Using the traditional skills of the old master Paul Ysart.
Through his own inventiveness, imagination and ability to freely manipulate the hot glass, Peter Holmes, as we know it today first created the abstract paperweight, in 1965. He has trained a great team who create these pieces of fantastic art.
